Lightweight composite tiled systems
Modern composite tiles weigh a fraction of clay or concrete and are engineered specifically for conservatory loads. They look like real tiles from the ground and carry 40-year manufacturer warranties.
Replace tired polycarbonate or glass with an insulated, lightweight tiled roof system. End the freezing winters, baking summers and constant condensation — and finally use the room every day of the year.

Service Overview
A standard polycarbonate or glass conservatory roof has almost no thermal mass and a U-value typically 5–10× worse than a tiled roof. The result is the room you all know: too cold from October to April, too hot from June to August, and dripping with condensation in between. A conservatory roof conversion replaces that single weakest element with a fully insulated, lightweight tiled roof system, transforming the conservatory into a true year-round extension.
Modern lightweight tiled roof systems use engineered timber rafters, multi-layer insulation, vapour-control membranes and lightweight composite or real clay tiles. The total roof weight is engineered to be carried by the existing conservatory frame and dwarf wall, so in most cases no foundation work is needed.
Internally, you can specify a vaulted plastered ceiling with optional Velux roof windows or downlights — instantly making the room feel like part of the house rather than a glorified greenhouse. Externally, the new roof reads as a proper extension and adds genuine kerb appeal.
Ridgeline delivers the structural design, Building Regs compliance, roof construction, internal insulation and finished plastered ceiling as a single coordinated project. You don't manage trades; we hand the room back ready to decorate.
The cost of getting it wrong
Polycarbonate roofs degrade. Glass seals fail. Aluminium frames cold-bridge. The longer the failure runs, the more damage migrates into the rest of your home.
An uninsulated conservatory bleeds heat from the adjoining room every time the door is opened — easily £200–£400 per winter on a typical home.
Leaking roof junctions saturate timber, rot frames and stain plaster on the adjoining wall. Fix the roof or rebuild the conservatory later.
Single-skin polycarbonate causes constant condensation that runs into seals, cills and adjoining walls — leading to black mould and respiratory issues.
Most homeowners stop using their conservatory entirely. You're paying property tax on a room that sits empty 11 months a year.
Survey reports flag failing conservatory roofs aggressively. Buyers price the cost of replacement off the asking price — typically more than the actual job.

In detail
There are several lightweight tiled roof systems on the market, plus hybrid options that retain some glass for daylight. Here's how we'll guide you through the choice on your free survey.
Modern composite tiles weigh a fraction of clay or concrete and are engineered specifically for conservatory loads. They look like real tiles from the ground and carry 40-year manufacturer warranties.
Where structural capacity allows, we can install real clay or slate tiles for a fully traditional finish that matches the host property exactly.
If you don't want to lose all the daylight, a hybrid system retains a central glass section — typically a sloping skylight panel — set into a tiled surround. Best of both worlds for darker rooms.
Modern Velux units provide controlled daylight and ventilation without the heat-gain of a fully glazed roof. We typically specify two or three units per standard conservatory roof.
Below the structural rafters we install insulated plasterboard, taped, jointed and skimmed. Optional cornicing and downlighters complete the room as a proper extension.
Any roof replacement requires Building Regs approval covering structure, U-values and ventilation. We supply structural calculations and manage Building Control sign-off.

In most cases yes — modern lightweight systems are designed for exactly this application. We carry out a structural check on the free survey and only proceed if the existing frame is suitable.
