Service Overview
Fencing looks simple. The reasons most garden fences sag, lean or blow over within five years are also simple: undersized or under-treated posts, posts not concreted properly, panels nailed straight to posts, and cheap timber that absorbs water like a sponge. Get the basics right and a fence stands square for 20 years.
Ridgeline uses pressure-treated structural timber posts (or concrete posts where preferred), set in correctly mixed post-mix or wet-mixed concrete to proper depths. Panels are fitted into post slots or onto secure brackets — never just nailed flat to the post.
For close-board and bespoke designs, we use individually fixed feather-edge boards on arris rails, allowing single boards to be replaced over time without rebuilding the panel. For gates, we build full-frame braced timber gates with proper hinges, fall-bolts and drop-bolts engineered to the gate's weight.
Whether you need a single panel replaced or a full perimeter and bespoke driveway gates, we build to the same standard.
The cost of getting it wrong
Fencing isn't difficult — but it's easy to do badly. Cheap installs are rebuilds within five years.
Untreated or under-treated posts rot at the soil interface, then snap in the first big wind.
Posts set too shallow or with too little concrete lever out under wind load.
Panels can't move with seasonal expansion, and a single broken panel means rebuilding the run.
Gates hung on under-spec hinges, or onto twisted posts, won't close or latch within a year.
Lazy installs ignore ground levels — the run looks visibly stepped or wavy from day one.
Our Process
Measure the run, discuss style, height and gates, identify ground conditions.
Itemised written quotation including materials, posts, concrete, gates and disposal.
Old fencing removed and disposed; new run set out square to existing structures.
Posts set to proper depth and concreted; panels or boards fitted into slots or onto rails.
Gates hung level and tested; site cleared.
The Benefits
Posts and rails treated for ground contact — typical 15–25 year working life.
Posts set to correct depth in correctly mixed concrete — no leaning, no levering out.
Most domestic fencing runs complete in 1–3 days.
Set out properly so the run reads clean and level — not stepped or wavy.
Properly braced timber gates with engineer-spec hinges that close and latch first time, every time.
A properly built fence lasts 15–25 years. Cheap fencing is a rebuild every 5–7.

In detail
Fencing styles vary by garden, taste and use. Here's the work we do most often.
The most common UK domestic fencing — fitted into concrete or timber posts with proper post caps and gravel boards.
Individual feather-edge boards fixed to arris rails between posts. Stronger, more secure, longer-lasting and easier to repair than panel fencing.
Open agricultural-style fencing for paddocks, large gardens and rural properties.
Full-frame braced timber gates from single pedestrian gates up to large twin driveway gates. Proper hinges, fall-bolts, drop-bolts and locks.
For maximum lifespan and easy panel replacement over time, concrete posts and gravel boards are an excellent choice — no rot at ground level, ever.
Old fencing stripped, loaded and removed responsibly. Site left clean.
