Service Overview
A porch canopy does three jobs at once: it lifts the visual quality of the entire front elevation, it protects the front door and its surround from weather damage, and it gives visitors somewhere dry to stand while you answer the door. For the cost, no other exterior upgrade returns as much value.
Ridgeline porch canopies are designed specifically for each property. We take measurements, study the existing brickwork, eaves line and door surround, then design a canopy that looks like it has always belonged — never bolted-on as an afterthought.
Construction is from properly graded structural timber, weather-detailed with lead flashings or proprietary GRP details into the brickwork, and finished with cedar shingles, slates, tiles or EPDM depending on the property style.
Most porch canopies fall under Permitted Development. We'll confirm on the free site visit and apply for confirmation where needed.
The cost of getting it wrong
A canopy that isn't flashed correctly into the wall is a future damp problem. Cheap installs cause more damage than they prevent.
Without proper lead flashing, rain runs behind the canopy and into the brickwork — staining inside walls within months.
Untreated or under-treated structural timber starts rotting at the wall junction within 3–5 years, often invisible until the canopy sags.
Canopies bolted with under-spec fixings into soft mortar can pull away from the wall — a serious safety risk over a doorway.
An off-the-shelf canopy fitted regardless of the property's proportions actually reduces kerb appeal.
Our Process
Measure, photograph, discuss style options and confirm what suits the property.
Sketch design, materials specification and fixed itemised quotation.
Structural elements pre-cut and joinery prepared in our workshop where possible.
Fixed properly into the wall with structural fixings, lead flashings and weather details.
Painted or stained, made-good around the install, handed over the same week.
The Benefits
The single highest-impact upgrade you can make to a home's front elevation.
Stops weather damage to the door, frame and threshold — saving thousands in future replacement.
Most porch canopies are installed in a day or two with minimal disruption.
Estate agents consistently flag porches as a top-five kerb-appeal upgrade for resale.
Designed for your property's proportions — never an off-the-shelf bolt-on.
Lead flashings, structural fixings, treated timber — built to look right and stay right for decades.
In detail
Porch canopies come in many styles. The right one depends on your property's age, character and door surround.
Pitched gable canopies suit traditional homes — semi-detached, Edwardian, cottage and most period properties. Tiled, slated or shingled to match the main roof.
Modern minimal canopies suited to contemporary properties or 1960s–1980s homes. Finished in EPDM with a clean fascia and concealed gutter.
A simple pitched lean-to fixed to the wall above the door — suited to terraces and smaller properties.
An open canopy supported on decorative brackets — high impact on cottages and character properties without enclosing the entrance.
Western Red Cedar, oak, painted softwood, with cedar shingles, natural slate, clay tiles or EPDM depending on roof style.
Lead flashings dressed correctly into mortar joints, treated structural timber, ventilated roof construction and proper drip details.
